Here's a weird one for ya.
So, this started only happening a few days ago. Sometimes when I'm in an application and it, for no apparent reason, freezes itself and everything else in OS X. I cannot click any menus, any other applications or type anywhere (let alone make a field active to type in). My mouse still works fine (can move it around - but when I hover over the dock, nothing happens - it should magnify and obviously display application names).
I can use the Opt-Cmd-Esc trick to force quit the application, at which stage I think the problem is resolved as I can click into applications. The problems start (again?) when I try and type once selecting somewhere to type. I press keys and nothing is output to the field, as if I'm not typing at all.
This is an issue with OS X, as obviously I can do the Opt-Cmd-Esc thing and also change sound volume and brightness etc - the keyboard itself is fine. I end up having to restart the computer in order to regain use of regular typing.
Numerous Google searches does not bring up much that I can really go with.
What I can 'narrow' it down to, is the issue seems to occur when, or very soon after, I save a document. It's happened in both Coda and just now, Photoshop CS5. This leads me to think it may have something to do with my newly partitioned external HDD (insane, right?). Just after I partitioned it to make a separate volume for my MBP to use Time Machine (via sharing), the first occurrence happened. I see no reason logically for this to be the cause, however. It is noteworthy though.
I will eventually just unplug my external HDD and see if it happens anymore. Figured I'd post here first to see if anyone knows the answer.

Also, how the hell are you supposed to play the Swordquest games without the manual and comic books?
It is nice to see Waterworld though as the contest for it never happened and the cartridge was printed in very limited supplies.

$25 an hour for 3 hours work is NOT reasonable unless you live in a motor home in the desert. $25 is only good if it's a wage and you have an employer paying benefits and taxes for you. But as a freelancer, $25 is not that much by the time you pay taxes and other expenses; unless you are billing out 50 or 60 hours a week. 3 hours at $25 is terrible! A hundred hours (billable) at $25 is better... but still kind of low (depending on experience and where you live).
If the OP is going to bill hourly, then he at least needs to set a minimum hourly charge to make worth his while.
Again to get the real hourly wage divide $25 by 3, that is the true hourly rate which is $8.30. Reasonable I think not.
Generally the rule is the rule of 3 (this is how I quote, clients are happy and I don't undercut myself), times quotes by 3 and divide your hourly rate by this will give you the most accurate way of billing and ensuring you don't undercut yourself while the actual payment is never over the quoted amount (clients love this). It means it will allow you to reinvest in yourself with sick leave, holidays, new equipment and software.
So for a site mock up I would have quoted $675, while the actual billable would have come in around $375-$450.

From what I gather, it's just like LaunchBar, no?
I haven't messed with it a whole lot, so I don't know all its ins and outs, but it seemed to be doing a similiar thing (brings up applications/files as you type).
Not bad, although if they are the same idea, I prefer launch bar - just wish it was free ;)
Except QuickSilver is free.
I don't remember LaunchBar too well, I tried it about 9 months ago. Quicksilver has some really neat features. I find it *ESSENTIAL*

Hi, I had a look through but can't find what I am after. I have just placed in over 900 books into my itunes. My challenge is that I like everything organised. I am trying to find the list of categories for books that have a nice category display picture and can not find this anywhere. For example, Science Fiction has a category cover and so does history and children's. Anyone that can help would be great.

And the engine choices suck because there are so many stupid people here who believe only a V6 or a V8 is a good engine while a TDI or a turbocharged 4 cylinder can have the same or better performance. Especially since you can't drive fast here anyway.
There is hope. One example: I'm no SUV fan, but the new Ford Explorer features engine choices (particularly the turbo 4 cylinder) that should significantly improve fuel economy over previous models. It's at least a small step in the right direction.

Sometimes after disconnecting my firewire drive (where I save all my torrents) and restarting bittorrent it appears to that the torrents continue anyway but saving to volumes/firewire2 or volumes/firewire3.

Firstly, as well as school i've worked 20 hours a week for nearly a year at around 6.50 an hour. I'll leave you to work out how much i've got. So no, it's not really ridiculous.
Secondly, my parents are happy to pay insurance. I find that fair to be honest.

We (the general public) are tightening up the "gay slur" leash a little to tight. I know I use the word ****** or thats gay when I do things, even if I look at a pink motorcycle I'm like that's gay. It has nothing to do with gays in general, so why flip out over it?

Sounds like you got an older revision of the case. Apparently, the newer ones from Speck themselves are a little softer and easier to handle.
Nothing you can do about the one you have to make it softer. You can always try contacting Speck for a replacement. I hear they're pretty generous with replacements.

For feature films and television these days, Final Cut is ABSOLUTELY the industry standard. Oh and in the 8 years I've lived in Hollywood, I never met one person in the industry who uses a Windows PC (maybe a writer or two).

Where do I find the TV out settings on my ipod nano? My goal is to watch slideshows I create with the macbook on my TV. I've read that I can move the slideshows onto the ipod and use RCA cables to view on the TV. Is this true? Any other suggestions or better ways to accomplish this goal? I also have an iphone 3gs if that works better.

Sweet. But, there's more to just piggybacking on your mac's airport connection to make calls. I think more has to be done to make this networking possible.
There are already wi-fi enabled phones that can make Skype calls if you have a wi-fi connection. This is nothing new or groundbreaking.
Well this certainly beats that ipod integration nonsense. MP3 player phones are a dime a dozen, I'd rather see great communication device that take how the user communicates to the next level, not just stuff a music player in it.

At minimum it must have seamless iPod integration and a decent-to-good phone experience. Everything else is gravy.
Many manufacturers already do this with their unlocked phones - but they just store the settings on the phones (no need to connect to a computer).

I expect Apple will partner with T-Mobile and/or Cingular, and that the phone will be available for no more than $300 with new contract (and even that is expensive by today's standards).

So when in dial mode, you would spin the click wheel and the numbers, displayed on the display in a circle, would highlight the number that you were on and then click the center button on the click wheel to select. If you wanted to get really old school, you could have the rotary sounds come through the headphones. Or course you would still be able to dial by your address book or search through a downloaded version of the white or yellow pages (which would naturally sync into your phone whenever you charge it at home, via blue tooth or direct connection to your computer).
Text messaging is extremely popular and I just don't see Apple crippling text messaging on the iPhone. Can you see inputting a 120-character text message on a "rotary-style" interface? Yeah, I can't either. Any kind of rotary interface on the iPhone is a non-starter idea, IMO.

Mi powerbook g4 wont boot. I just erase and reinstal mac osx, reset NVRam, and use disk utilities to repair HD. But nothing seams to work and in fact i belive it came out worts. The sytems works perfect in safe mode, but in normal mode it just stay in a blue screen, the fan continue to work but nothing else happens.
I reallyneed help because no mac service will be available for some days and I am in desperate need to work on my laptop.
