If you don't have someone to drive you home and look after you for the night, it is recommended to stay in hospital overnight.

iGary i wish that al goes to plans and your certainly in my pray's :)

I don't mind that at all - I'm actually hoping to stay just one night in case...

Funny thing is I could walk to the hospital (and the Apple Store :D) in 10 minutes...

I just don't want to wake up puking all over the place.

web applications that don't require install of real programs, then I'll grant "mac-users" that one.

How is a web application not a real program ? It's written in a programming language, it executes instructions based on how the code is compiled/interpreted, and it displays results by processing some user input.

Sounds like a real program to me.

Anyway, "installing" a computer program or application is savvy ? Then what does it mean when you compile your applications straight from the source code ? Better yet, write them yourself ?

Considering that nearly all "Pro IT" overwhelmingly used Windows

Please, all the guys who are any good at IT are Unix users. "Windows" sysadmins suck. It's a dirty secret and don't tell my boss : I probably know more about Windows than they do. I just don't want to work with it.

not to mention that "gamers" are one of the most comptuer-savvy consumers

Laughable. Gamers are good at one thing : Buying parts and jamming them together. It's not like they even come close to understanding what is meant by sub-pixel tessellation and what that means on their screens (or even what a sub-pixel is).

Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

As do I (contracts I mean, except most of them are Air Force). True the no wifi is an issue on base, but are we necessarily talking about just on base? I think without hearing more details of what they want to do with this stuff (which we won't) then we can't really make any judgement calls. As for the durability claims, well that is a load of..you know what. The Army does in fact use Mac OS X based systems for many of their servers and even some desktops. The vast majority is still Windows, but the Macs are out there in the wild.

I see Trump as a fascist, blow-hard alpha-male con artist. Might be okay to sit around and drink a few beers and swap lies, but that's about it.

His yap-yap on TV about oil and the Saudis was about as ignorant as you can get.

A slight warning about the caps replacement - Id recommend doing it carefully, you really dont want to ruin the board if you slip. Also check PDS slots still work post-op if/when you replace them :)

I agree, chrismacguy. I should have said that removing them isn't particularly easy. Nor hand soldering tanalum caps. Experience is very handy. Too much heat and you can lift tracks. Too little heat and you can rip tracks from the board.

Wouldn't it be lovely if the new iPhones ship with 32 gb (as the base phone) and 64 gb (as the higher capacity phone)?

    One could hope...
:DI fully expect this. With a bump for the $99 iPhone to 16 GB. There's no reason not to do this. In fact, I think it was more or less confirmed that the only reason the iPhone 4 wasn't 64 GB had to do with some kind of patent issue or supply constraints due to anticompetitive practices (I forget exactly), which made the chips too scarce for production.

As for the Expose prototype, I agree with others. I think they dumped this multitasking interface because using the App icon made more sense given screen space limitations.

    MODERATOR NOTE

Many posts and responses in this thread have been removed for violating the Forum Rules.

A quick reminder: please avoid replying to posts that break the rules. Doing so increases its exposure, encourages offenders to continue, and makes more work for the moderators. This translates to slower response times. Instead, report the post using the "report post" button (http://guides.macrumors.com/images/b/b7/Report.gif) to the left of each post. Thanks.

Eric - good point that we don't want to give these violators more forum visibility to spread their garbage. That said, many of us hope that there will be tighter moderation and action against this behavior.

Also - were any of the bad actors banned?

Here's how to get my second key:
Follow me on Twitter (@JustinFreid), and @reply me with why you should get it. I'll give my extra key to the person who convinces me he or she most deserves it.

I will be buying an 11 this summer. I am assuming the SB i5 ULV is a given and the 3000 graphics will be more than enough for me so...

    1) 128gb ssd standard (unlikely because ssd prices probably haven't fallen enough...yet)
    2) 4gb ram standard
    3) more battery life (maybe just to 6 hours, but hey its an improvement)
    4) Backlit keyboard (for aesthetics more than functionality)
    5) Thunderbolt (last because I don't really do much file transfer in the first place)

oh and include the 11 in the back to school free ipod touch deal.

I put 20 in the car yesterday, and paid 1.31.9 per liter. Working that out with the exchange rate, I'm paying about $7.75 per US gallon. It currently costs me about 50 ($78) to fill my tank, and I get about 300 miles out of it. I do ~250 miles a week.

Sony had a lot of innovative products in 2010 but they (for no discernible reason) decided to discontinue all three products (VAIO Z, X, P).

The P fits in my pocket, the X is insanely light and thin (and somehow managing to shoehorn internal Ethernet and VGA to something that's lighter/thinner/smaller than the Air) and the Z was simply astonishing. Non-LV i7 proc, GT330M graphics, 512GB SSD, Blu-ray and a Full HD 13.1" LED screen (covering 96% of Adobe's RGB colors!) in something that was the same weight as the last-gen 13" Air.

Why they discontinued them I'll never know. Glad I bought them while I could :)

And somehow having to buy/carry around another bulky dongle, and using up another one of the USB ports, is better?

Not to mention that the internal Ethernet port could support up to Gigabit speeds while the extEthernet would only support up to 100Mbps (due to USB's limitation of 480mbps).

Yeah, all of the above limitations/annoyances sounds way better than having a collapsible Ethernet port

...and GTX460M in an Air? Yeah good luck with that. Do you want worse battery life and a melted casing or what?

You do realize that the 410M is a dedicated graphics chip? There is no space for a dedicated card on the Air's mobo.
Besides- the 410M performs slightly worse than the HD3000 and is thus worse than the current 320M. And thus, if you doubt the HD3000 can run OS X at a 'retina' resolution, good luck with the 410M. The only thing going for the 410 is the better NVIDIA drivers.

    See above.

We'll see. I highly doubt it, but we'll see.

Sony has proven that Apple could get more features in the same space. Unfortunately, I dont think Apple cares about features if it interferes with differentiating product lines.

What the MBA gets will depend on what it replaces (if anything).

Apple has confirmed however, that the MBA type of laptop is still highly desired. Now lets hope they put more into it while keeping the cost low. Cost was, in my opinion, what ultimately killed sony's ultra portable lines.

wonder if this is why direcTV never came out with this functionality. Generally they are ahead of the curve (TWC) with comes to actually providing value for the customers, to some degree.

Funny thing, my wife and I were discussing first gen iPad earlier this morning. I told her how Apple had the 16gb refurbished for $349 but that they were sold out. Fast forward four hours or so and I see this story on MacRumors. We both agreed we should jump on this deal. I immediately began calling a few stores in the LA area. Lucky for me, the rep says he has a couple 16gb models remaining. I tell the rep I'll be there within the hour and I hop in the car and drive the 20 miles to the store. Imagine how I felt when he tells me they're all out and that they put 32gb models where 16gb should be. I was livid, but I held my composure and called another store about 10 miles away. I told them my story and insisted they hold it with my name.

When the rep at the second store came out with the box, the first thing he tells me is, "You want a 64gb, right?" I could feel my pulse rising. And then he said, "Just kidding." All I could do was smile, because he got me good and because I just saved 40% off an iPad and didn't even have to use GEICO.

Maybe you have really abnormally large fingers! :D

A full-hand pinch isn't that hard to do on an iPhone/iPod Touch

Try it. The positioning isn't comfortable for anyone.

I'd argue that you'd see Apple lose a large number of users if they went that route.
