Here are my thoughts about this so called Conversation:
the topic of discussion will be - how to get illegals a greencard in a quick/fair manner. Any discussion of legal non-immigrants and pains they have to go through in the current EB2/EB3/Visa stamp topics will be considered taboo.
It's sad but inevitable. Illegals are potentially in a better position to get greencard than legals like us.

No, experience from current company does not count.
That is not true. It CAN count... according to PERM guidelines (from murthy.com):
"On-the-job experience with same employer is allowed for positions that are not "substantially comparable," meaning more then 50%, different from the original employment position."
So if you are a Software Engineer and get promoted to Sr. Software Engineer or Product Manager then as long as you can prove that your job duties are 50%+ different than the old position, you can use that experience provided it helps you meet job requirements for the senior level position.
Also see this:
http://www.simmonsungar.com/rirchecklist.html
"Experience Gained on the Job
PERM did not eliminate the ability of the foreign national beneficiary of the labor certification to qualify using experience gained with the same employer as long as the prior job was not substantially comparable to the labor certification position. A job will be considered substantially comparable if it requires performance of the same job duties more than 50 percent of the time.
Apparently, experience gained with an overseas parent company, U.S. affiliate, or predecessor company will not be considered experience gained with the same employer. This is based on the definition of employer as an entity with a particular Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). This means that experience gained with an overseas parent, affiliate, etc. may now be used to satisfy the experience component of a PERM labor certification application."

Please keep this thread handy... For my wife, we went through hell due to super coordination between, immigration & social security office.
http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/forum6-non-immigrant-visas/22458-h4-to-h1-no-ssn-yet-7-weeks.html
Hi Goel_Ar, thanks for the response. Assuming there is indeed very good co-ordination between USCIS and SSN office, how long does it *normally* take to get the card?
Any ideas, anyone?

If you havent already seen threads here about how bad the desi employers here in US can be, companies like Satyam, Infosys who are based in India have even worst reputation..they pay indian salaries and expect round the clock work including weekends..and ofcourse no pay..working at McDonalds is probably a better option than these companies...

Singer,
Your case seems peculiar to the ones that is normally discussed in this forum. I would suggest you post your message in the "ask a lawyer" section. You might get a better response from an attorney who practices immigration law.
Hope all works out well for you.

WIW

Don't believe me... Just Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=God+of+Cricket&aq=f&aqi=g1g-m2&aql=&oq=) with these words.:)
Nothing against you or that i don't agree or anything like that... but if you are from IT/Software you would know how to point search engine results to your site/sites.
But No doubt, Sachin's the best. And we are waiting for him to pull a WC2011 victory for us. Hail Tendlya.

Kumarr,
I had the same situation for my daughter who turned 14.They requested for biometric fee $80.00.It should be simple and OK.just pay the the amount and you should be fine. After that you may get a FP notice.
Once we sent the bimetric fee, proceesing resumed and everything was fine.
Same here. My daughter turned 15 and got 2nd FP notice but NO fees as you mentioned but her was transferred to another center few months ago.
I really don't understand the logic of fees. PLease correct me if I am wrong here -I thought there is a 'lock-in-date' which is at the elegibility data at the time of filing. This saves all concerns of aging out and issues regarding fees. They can't keep asking for enhanced fees for already filed cases.

For the experts on this board, my H1 expires on 9/30/07. Should I wait till after Aug. 17 to qualify for a 3-year extension?
jazz
if you qualified and filed for 485 depending on your PD, you most probably will get only 1 year extension. I just filed mine May 29th for 3 years and filed my 485 June 8th but when approved I got my H1 extension approved only for 1 year. I may be wrong, just referencing what my lawyer said..

I don't want you to freak out because my case is probably a very small fraction of the visa applications BUT since this thread is specifically related to PIMS, I thought I'd give you my example. Good news for you is, you are going to India. I was stuck in Canada not knowing long it might take for the PIMS to get updated. I ended up touring North Canada but I wish I could've traveled with a peace of mind.

Thanks again.
I guess amending would be a far cheaper option than filing for a new visa , so that I can get a fresh approval.
Also could you tell me if telling them that the opportunities company wanted to employ me for in the US vanished over the recession, since its genuine that many cmopanies faced such situations.Would that be taken as negative or as an inability of my company or myself for the need of a visa now ?
The thing is that if I say someone was sick or I used the time for studies, and if they ask for a supporting proof, that would be trouble.
Pls advice on that last part and thanks again for the wonderful service.
