This is news to me also. Once my current H1 expires I'm also planning to work on EAD and change to H4. One attorney adviced me to do that so that in case something happens to our I-485, I'll be on H4 and be still on status in this country to appeal for an MTR.
Another attorney told me to just work on EAD, no need to file H4 but I can if that will give me a peace of mind.
But what this attorney described here make sense too. If working on EAD invalidates H1, it should invalidate H4 also. But then again like the OP said I have known people who were on H4 and started working when they got EAD and extended their H4.
Is it different in case its the beneficiary of the I485 thats moving to H4?

Online updates are sometimes late. There are cases of people getting their green cards last year in the visa bulletin fiasco with no online updates. You should not rely on that. Your friend needs to get your attorney to act on this ASAP and sort it out. After all if you don't know why it was rejected you have no chance to rectify it.

They r a bloodly lazy bunch they sit on ur passport and do nothing. So please take the day off and go collect it. I called them atleast a hundred times and basically our passport was ready and they have not mailed it. so please keep calling endlessly they will pickup at some point but my advice is go and collect it urself.

I may have to travel urgently to India by end of this month. Just wondering if anyone recently got their passport renewed at DC and what was the duration. I think this kind of a thing is going to happen more and more in the future. If you cut-off H1-b supply, choke green card process for legal immigrants (would-be), throw spanners into the wheels of a slowing economy by ill-thought restriction-ist policies, how are the companies going to survive (and rake in the moolah for the investors, get fat bonuses to the CEOs etc)? Its just not possible to hire some citizen who happens to be lying around without work, it just doesnt work that way. Skill-set counts. Otherwise, we would have seen a lot more citizens (whites specifically) around our work-places (software/hardware development). It is not pure coincidental and only to reduce wages that one finds tonnes and tonnes of Chinese/Indian folks slogging around in tech offices. Around 2005 when our company (big storage giant) was trying to hire for our Software development team, we couldnt find many candidates even to interview for regular Network programming (C/C++ types) jobs..so we had to go and hire an entry level graduate (MS), a white guy who had no programming skills (was a Project Mgr earlier, and looking for job) and another Developer from Canada. Ofcourse, I didnt even clear the guy with no programming skills but my manager took him anyway as we were not even finding folks to interview..and the guy left after a couple of months unable to cope with programming related challenges..Long story short, you need the right set of people to work the right set of jobs!
This is something that idiots like Grasslet/Sessions/King etc will never understand. All they are trying to do is pander to a particular vote base and thats what they will continue to do.

My Wife was 5 months pregnant when we went for medical exam in June 07. Her Obgyn did all the HPV and HIV medical tests in Feb 07 and additionally did the vericella anti bodies blood test in May 07. She did not take the this time TB skin test as both of us tested Skin test positive and Chest X ray negative in 2003 and we both took 9 months preventive medication.
We transferred all the medical records from my Primary care to Civil surgeon for other vaccinations that we took back in 2004 before going for our first baby so that we don't get into this vaccinations mess . So he just wrote the comment to do the Chest X Ray again at primary care physician after the baby is born and certified fully healthy. So this time I did not spend a dime on her medical tests as everything was covered by Insurance. I just took chest X Ray and then Blood test at county health department.
All you need to do is to take the records from your primary care or OBGYN and take them to Civil surgeon. Make sure to take your wife's blood reports done OBGYN in addition to her referral letter. Everything will be alright. If you did not take vaccines, then he will write his recommendation which will result in RFE.

I found that EADs from NSC are being issued for filers until Aug13, as of now. I guess the processing time is like a week and half of the week, for every day. So you could be getting in 3 weeks.

You probably put the update on your camera (if you followed Nikon's directions) but you may have not installed it. What I mean is if you go to firmware to see what version your using you should see at the bottom update available, install? Or something along those lines. You then must select that and hit the enter button. When it is installed the menu should be a dark grey color. That is the 2.0 menu.
Bracketing can be done by holding the button on the left side of camera (with back facing you) behind the auto,m,a...dial. It's beside the format button. If you hold that and roll your thumb dial on the right hand side it should turn on your backeting. If you want to adjust the settings you should be able to do that using, I think, your index finger dial on the front.

My first 3 years of H1B visa and I-94 expired on december,31,2009. My employer applied for my H1B renewal and got the approval notice (797A with I-94 part in the bottom valid from 1/1/2010 till end of 2012) expiring in end of 2012. I went to Canada for 4 days and got my 3 year visa extension stamped which is valid till end of 2012 for the same employer. They took off my old I-94 when I left to Canada and did not issue a new I-94 while entering the US. The officer just took a look at the 797 and said that I am good with the bottom part of the 797 itself and did not stamp any expiry date on the bottom part or did not issue a new I-94(white card).He just stamped the entry date and POE name on my passport. I checked with the CBP officer and she said that since the renewed visa and 797 is valid till end of 2012, I can use the bottom part of the 797 as the I-94 and it is valid till end of 2012. Is this correct?
I noticed that the bottom part of the 797 has the same number as my old I-94.
I believe that I should get a new I-94,but the officer was not ready to believe that and kept saying that the 797 bottom part is enough.

I posted this question sometime back since I am in the same situation. I did get some response back and you are in the right track. On this issue, the regulations are very unclear. So far I have not found anything that says we can transfer to a new employer on 7th year and gain 8th year with them. AC21 allows H1B portability but unclear when it comes to 7/8th year. In my oppinion, safest way to go thru this issue is to apply for remaining 7th year and 8th year extension, 6 months before the 7th year expires. My new employer will only hire me only if 8th year gets approved since this will allow them to file for the new GC thru PERM. I did talk to couple lawyers but Mr. Micheal Khosla (http://www.usimmigration.net/index.html) is very confident & clear about this issue. Plese check his website for other informations. I hope I am being helpful here and please let me know how things work out for you.
