Thanks for participating . Please provide your feedback on the meeting i.e What you liked and what you didn't like. This will help us for the future meetings.
Also please become more active and urge you friends and colleagues to become more active in NJ state chapter.
Any suggestion on promoting our cause will be greatly appreciated:
Some of the areas to think about are:
a) How often we should hold such conferences?
b) What other topics we should include. ( For example Financial planning for the community, given the uncertainity in the process)?
c) In what way we together can help increase our number?
d) etc...etc...
The meeting was very well organized. Q&A session with Attorney Prashanti Reddy was very useful. Here are my suggestions:
a) We can have these conferences every two months or whenever core thinks so.
b) I think we should stick to immigration.
c) Earlier 'Invite a friend/Add a member' campaigns were very successful as compared to flyer/poster campaign.

As per the last revised visa bulletin, the extension period for filling I-485 is Aug 17. But it talks about only I485 and not about I-140.
So can anyone confirm, if one can file I-140 and I-485 concurrently from Aug 1 to Aug 17.

You can change via H1-b transfer and H4 will be valid. You 485 should be valid due to AC 21.
Now, the question is when dates do become current, and you want to file a dependent 485, will any support be needed from your old employer with whom you started your GC process?
Can the primay file this himself with just his 485 receipts.

There is one option which you can try. Take a online appointment at one of the consulates in Mexico. It costs $8 or so. They ask to send the 797 by fax before the appointment date. Presumably they ask for the 797 to do a PIMS verification. I do not know if that helps in confirming PIMS but for $8 , it is worth taking this additional step.

The Senate Judiciary Committee�s senior Republican said on Thursday that he is on the verge of offering a new immigration reform package, making significant changes that could win over recalcitrant members from both parties.
Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.), who accompanied President Bush Thursday on his visit to Pennsylvania, said he has spoken to Bush and the two Cabinet members who have led immigration talks about his new bill. Specter also told reporters that he has spoken to most senators involved in this spring�s failed �grand bargain,� outlining his plan and appealing for a restart to the arduous immigration debate.
�I�m ready to unveil it now,� Specter said. �I�ve got letters to the 100 senators on my desk.�
Specter explained the new measure would omit the controversial �Z visa� program, which would have given the nation�s 12 million illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. Removing the Z visa would offer conservatives less opening to tag the bill as �amnesty.� But he would leave intact the family reunification standard that this spring�s defunct immigration bill partially replaced with a skills-based system.
The lone change in the status of the 12 million, Specter said, would be removing their status as fugitives from justice, an attempt to diminish their incentive to remain outside the system and in fear of deportation.
Specter added that he already has met with �stakeholders� from outside groups involved in the complex immigration debate, and he plans to hold more sit-downs next week. Offering green cards to immigrants seeking employment in the high-tech industry is under consideration, he said.

They are clearing the mess they have created. I agree not many people correct their mistakes, people who do, should be noticed. But that is all we should do.
If not for our fight and raising our "voice" they would never would have even considered it.
So if I were you I would just say thank you to him and instead of spending the money for greeting cards or flowers to emilio, I would be donating it immigrationvoice which will help our voice grow even stronger.

I have about 3 months left on H1b. From your post, it seems that I shud file for extension ASAP and if layoff happens...transfer H1..
Did I interpret you correctly?
When you apply for H1 transfer..they transfer the current H1.
If you have more than 6 months on ur H1 you cannot apply for extension..
when you file for transfer.
So better option would be:
a.) Transfer H1...and then file for extension.
b.) Or file for extension and then change jobs...
if you havent filed for 485.. then you have to restart the GC..and recapture your PD.... i used the option B.

She can't renew her H1B after 6 years. She can work using EAD or choose not to work. No need for H4 also. If you want a cover for you, she need to file PERM for her to start a process for her. No other way for cover. If you work for sponsoring employer, your H1B is still valid, eventhough you enter with AP.

I don't think a 1 year ead or 2 year ead is really affecting 485 applications.
USCIS will approve 2 yrs EAD only if the dates are not current and visa is not available for that particular case. in my case my pd is always current and visa is available.

I believe there are very few left before April 1st 2004. EB2 I was stuck at April 1st 2004 for a long time and never moved from that date (excluding 2-3 times for a month or two when2006 people got approved). There will be lot of people from first half of 2004.
Yeah, before it went to Dec 1999, it was June 2004 i think and during the August 2006 current time lots of 2005s and 2006s got approved.
Since its till Jan 2005 this time i reckon its purely gonna be core 2004.

How do I see or get LUD for I140 ? Mine was approved in DEC, 2006. Applied 485 in August 2nd week. Will I also get LUD?

My wife got her DL renewal in Jan, she teaches @ Univ of Calif as Asst Prof , on H1 visa - she is on 6th year, they did not ask any questions, we got extremely courteous service from DMV. She got 5 years renewal

Thanks for sharing your experience.. BTW, were you using your AP for the first time? I have heard that while traveling on AP you need to go through secondary screen, which takes time. Is that true?
Yes you have to go to secondary inspection. Time depends on how many other people are referred to secondary inspection. There will be some with AP some with other issues. In my case, there were 7-8 people ahead of us and it took close to 90 minutes.
