Actually... my Samsung Focus (Windows Phone 7) updated itself at 1:59 to 3:00... I watched. I believe this is an Apple level problem, not Microsoft ;)

Phones keep time while they're off. Phone's also don't check to see what time it is, every hour, they check when they're turned on. The network provides a fallback, but the phone should know what time it is, too. There's no excuse for Apple's spotty coding. None.

i understand what you're saying, as soon as the phone is booted up, the time is pushed to the phone by the carrier.

the time was updating by the carrier right at 2AM to reflect the proper time changes. this has nothing to do with Apple's code. the only way i can see this being a problem is if the setting "set time automatically" wasn't enabled.

It works fine with glencox. Very strange, but in a couple of days Issmit should be passing me, so if it is something the widget it should happen again (at least with my widget). I'll let you know.

I'm not a photographer, so I don't understand the significance of this update, but I was surprised to see all of these integration improvements. Is integrating with Flickr or your iPod or keynote that useful to a pro? I'd have though these were things more of interest to an average Mac user trying to show off his vacation/baby photos.

Are you pros interested in these things? Or maybe Apple is trying to get the serious amateur interested in Aperture?

4" screen in 16:9 format would be nice. I don't find 3.5" too big.

This would indeed be a welcomed improvement however I highly doubt that there's much truth to these claims.

What I'm curious about is why blindly (for a lot of people) support a very successful band, wouldn't this have been a really nice little story if people rallied to buy a track from a smaller/upcoming band? Or maybe a real charity single or for something more deserving, like them soldier blokes or whoever.

Good points, but I think you're knit-picking. A smaller and more unknown song from a smaller and more unknown band wouldn't have had the same impact. Nearly everyone has heard of RATM, and I think that's what essentially sold it. The song, band and cause, all being about rebellion.

We've tried what you said before with something called Band Aid. The first time it was rather good and useful. The second time it sucked. The Americans also tried it and it sucked as well.

I think giving money to shelter is a very good thing to do. I'd certainly hate to be spending xmas alone on the streets, especially in this weather. Soldiers have a job, and it is their choice they wanted to join the army. By all means, they should get all the help needed, but I believe helping the homeless is much more kinder. Please don't shoot me down for that, I fully respect the troops fighting for us abroad, but it was their choice to do that, where as, being homeless, isn't.

I think if it's trying to define a new category it will fail.
Well, Pages for NEXTSTEP failed, so it already has a history of that. But that doesn't negate the fact that a number of new categories are needed to fill in the gaps left by the current line of specialty apps.

But a more important question is... Do you want it to fail? And is this because you don't see this need from your point of view? Or that you can't comprehend a new category?

Why, in your opinion, is it going to fail?

People won't really know what to do with it and won't understand why they need it. It's important to provide a comparison so that people can understand what they can do with the app.
Why is a comparison needed? Are people unable to understand a description?

When you compare it to PageMaker, that doesn't help the people who it is aimed at. They know nothing of PageMaker. The comparison is meaningless to them. Why do you think Apple has been pushing it more along the lines of a word processor? Because it is aimed at people who want something more than a word processor but have no clue about PageMaker, InDesign or QuarkXPress.

And by making a comparison you are setting up the other app as the yard stick...

I'm just saying give Pages a chance to find it's own place.

    Reserving judgement for two reasons.

    Region lock.

Reportedly very very poor viewing angles when 3D is enabled. Most of previews from the show seemed to suggest they had to turn the 3d off, and there are many reports of headaches.

Don't see point in buying a 3D console if you have to turn the 3D off the majority of the time.

That being said, I'll probably end up getting one at some point, but maybe not launch.

Do you mean "whilst" the update is happening the fans run at full speed, or after the update applys your fans are stupidly loud?

With a pending order of the mac pro, the last thing I wanna go through is powermac G5 fan hell again......

yeah, just during the update, they blast off for about 10 seconds, it actually sounds like a small airplane taking off (thankfully my mac pro is secured between my desk and the wall :) )

but NO, the fans are not loud all the time now, they sound just fine, but after the update (according to temperature monitor) they are about 10 degrees F cooler now at idle

About Steve Jobs value at Apple, he did co-found the company and he is credited with turning Apple around and making it what it is today after returning. Does anyone dispute the latter?

But if that's true, then who will be able to continue to do what Jobs, if and when he'll no longer be with the company?

And what will happen to Apple without Jobs? Remember what happened the last time he left.

These are serious questions about Apple and it's future.
steve jobs is a major key person at apple but i thinks the company has learned its lesson and wont do the same mistake the did last time i.e trying to beat microsoft with the cost of quality and user friendliness

The problem isn't wasteful spending of money. The problem is that Earth does not have enough water to support 7 billion human mouths.
LMAO, is this a joke?? Has to be the dumbest thing I've read this month by a supposed adult.

I was excited for this app. when I heard about it. The evening it was released it kept crashing. I gave up on it then; and the intro is a little much too. I'm deleting it. Thanks for letting me down again TWC.

HEHE, I giggled cause I thought u were being sarcastic about The Weather Channel letting you down... I forgot Time Warner's 11% marketshare is still a big chunk, I just didn't make the connection cause to me TWC is The Weather Channel... which would be cool if they streamed live, hehe.

I have my iPhoto library backed up to an external hard drive, but I was thinking of uploading the whole thing online as well for added insurance. I was going to use Flickr because I already have an account there, but is there anywhere that's better? Are there any limits to how many pictures I can upload or how I can use them afterward?

Surely it would be unfair to judge somebody by their intelligence because so much of it is down to parental intelligence and wealth; how much they can teach you and how much they can pay for the best educations. (D's A)

In theory I suppose we should only judge people for things which are entirely their own doing; things which are neither a product of their genes or upbringing. But then, taking those away, what remains?

Not much really. In practice, I fear people are at least in some part judged for merits in which their efforts play a smaller part. Like natural intelligence, or sporting ability. Is this wrong? Perhaps on some abstract moral level, but I think it's probably permissible unless someone wants to call me a senseless bigot.

You bring a fresh perspective to these boards. Actually discussing an issue rather than getting worked up in a tizzy and shouting platitudes. ;)
