It's not, actually. Every time a change in the phone comes out, the manufacturer has to make new cases to reach those new customers, necessitating new tools/molds/whatever (so more cost on their end). Any manufacturer would prefer that the same case worked for all iPhone4s because then they would only have to spend the manufacturing dollars once to reach a every iPhone4 customer. Plus, less confusion when people are buying cases.
So what you are telling me is: An iPhone 4 comes out and I buy a case. Incase makes $20. An iPhone 5 comes out the same size and I don't buy a case because I have an old one and Incase makes $0. How is that better for Incase exactly?

I'm pretty sure that any time you use Personal file sharing, you are using AppleTalk.

It's a shame it's taken this long to be released, the iPhone looks gorgeous in white.
Glad for those that want the white iPhone; but prefer my cell phone in a darker color. But then this is from someone that really likes his iPad 2 in white! :D
Anyone feel confident buying a white one given the problems they've had getting one made?
I would wait to see what the "reviews" were before buying a white iPhone 4 for sure - but doubt that the issues that delayed it's release will be a real issue...

A good UI doesn't mean it has to look like a physical product, it merely has to be functional. The aesthetics of the new iCal are surprisingly bad. Here's hoping we'll be able to change it.
The rest of the UI elements look pretty nice -- the controls, etc. The graphics, not so much.

This will be a thread hand-grenade, but let's face it - depending on her/your/our healthcare situation, you kindof are paying for this. What we have here with this woman is a pending and unnatural liability on the healthcare system and insurance network due to her socially- and personally-irresponsible whim.
Who's paying for her bypass surgeries, ER trips, and specialized healthcare infrastructure in order to deal with a person of her size? We are. The cost to sustain her life will with all probablity be more than an average person's: so your premiums (or taxes, if you're in a socialized-medicine country) go up. I'm all for personal freedoms and not letting people tell others what to do with their bodies, but I don't want to subsidize stupid behavior like this. I say make her carry her own weight, and I mean that both literally and figuratively.

First, let me say that my own country, Canada, is not far behind so this isn't a 'my country is better than yours' situation.
Last year, I travelled to Myrtle Beach. On the way there, I was astounded at the amount of obese and out of shape people on the way down through all the states. I was once overweight so I have been there :( I couldn't believe that for every turnpike gas station, there were at least 3 or 4 fast food joints and/or donut shops. Add that to the economy issues and ppl don't have alot of choice to eat healthier foods which are more expensive. (of course, walking and running are free).
Later that night, I watched the news and this is when all the rage was about passing the healthcare bill. There was a debate about it.
one thought instantly came to mind: no wonder they wanted to pass it. With the number of overweight ppl, you're talking a potentially massive money maker (insurance and health care premiums). It's like making the cows fatter by only supplying them with fattening food or fattening situations then charge them for a heavier weight on the transport truck scale.
Now, those are my own observations so I'm not saying i'm right or wrong, but I think there's something to it. You may or may not agree or think i'm nuts, but I know what I saw, shocked me.
Again, it's nothing personal against anyone who was overweight b/c I was too. I've lost 25 lbs, which may not seem like a lot, but I'm also short and trust me, it's made a massive difference in my lifestyle in the most positive way :) I'm in better shape than I was in high school - which is sad really.

You went up in arms about the itunes logo, but when a mockup is truly horrible, you praise it? This is about the worst mockup i've ever seen.
Apple, please never ever put that awful backing on the iphone. ever.
You hip generation might like holes in your jeans and scratches on your phone, but I just think it's stupid. :p
Maybe they're afraid of yet again having to face the embarassment of having first bashed a design and said it looks like a cheap chinese knock-off and then doing a 180 degree turn when it turns out it's Apples own design, it's a precautionary measure.
(For the record, I never liked the 3G/3GS design, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the leaked iP4 images and loved it when it turned out to be the actual thing, and if this ugly abomination turns out to be an actual Apple product I loose all respect for Apple)

$20/year is a reasonable charge, but it seems terribly disproportionate to the $99/year for MobileMe. I'm guessing if there's any validity to this rumor, we'll see some price restructuring for MobileMe. At least I'd hope so.

I do not have a practical answer for you, but I had a similar question when I was upgrading the HD in my powerbook - I wanted the fastest drive I could afford as this would give my PB the biggest performance boost. What I found out is that the 160GB 5400 perpendicular drives have about 90-95% the performance throughput of a non-perpendicular 7200 drive. The reason being that because the bit are perpendicular, the drive needs to rotate a shorter amount to read the same amount of data. I know at the microscopic size of the data on the drives this seems hard to believe, but logically, it makes sense to me. My PB is a screamer by comparison to the 4200 drive that was in there, which has not bearing to your question of course...
I suspect, that the 5400 160GB drive from Apple will have decent performance. Personally, I'm not impressed with the 4200 200GB offering, but for someone who needs more space and ultimate performance is not key, then this would be fine.
That all being said, I look forward to finding out the specs & models of the actual drives Apple is putting in the new MBP's before I'd put money down on one.

I think people who say that no new iphone 5 is going to be announced are people who just got a Verizon iPhone and are on contract and so they hope that no new iPhone comes out.

So many Mac users are completely ignorant and oblivious to the fact that their Mac is, contrary to popular belief, not that secure in some respects. Many Mac zealots and apologists will tout how bullet-proof OS X is, how it's nothing like Windows, how it's amazingly secure - well, it isn't in some cases.

Apple's response is, I think, much more important than the MOKB finding a handful of vulnerabilities in OSX, if they address the problem quickly and respond accordingly with a good Security Update, than I think we can still be relatively assured that OSX is safe. We had one of these as a courtesy car from BMW, while our 3 series was being serviced this summer. I booked a 1 series but they didn't have any, so we were given this Countryman or whatever this long Mini is called. It is crap, crap, crap. It's an annoying car and for what it is, it's overpriced. The retro shape with the stupid door arrangement makes it even more awkward to live with. It has a cheap feel and hideous dials with average interior. I would rather drive a battered, rusty old E30 coupe with a fraction of its value than a Mini Countryman. That would just send the wrong message that I don't mind spending money on a car but that's the best - a joke theme car - that I could come up with.
I don't pimp my own drive or any old crap and I'm not willing to pay BMW to do the same for me.

What is with all the pop up warning on safari. Warning you have tabs open do you want to quit? Warning, you have text if field do you want to quit? You know what? I don't press apple-q on accident, in fact I'd say you'd have to do that on purpose. All these pop-up and confirms, well I fear it's become more windows like if you will. Pretty soon no one will read the things. I sure hope you can turn the things off, or hope they change it.
For those who remember, when apple had an early release or beta of OS X, they put the apple logo right in the middle of the top bar, not to mention it did nothing and was completely non functional. Glad they didn't go with that. I'm hoping they do away with these confirm buttons

I welcome the pop up warning. I constantly open and close windows in tabs and what-not, and cmd-w and dangerously close to cmd-q. I've accidently hit it before, closing something like 15 tabs that I wanted to keep open. Maybe there will be a way for you to turn it off if you feel as if you don't need it.
Taking a good look at Leopard and what's on Tiger, I think that the majority of changes are either evolutionary or not really that exciting. /yawn

Yes, there is a need to make apps look and function similarly, so that the user can find his/her way around, and iCal does that. All the buttons are similar, and they reside in similar, if not exactly the same positions as before.
BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE ALL PROGRAMS LOOK IDENTICAL!!! Why? because then you get confused as to which freaking program you're looking at! Remember when iTunes started looking exactly like Finder? That was crazy confusing. People who understand GUI creation know that to be efficient, your eye needs nicely defined targets, and if that nicely defined target happens to be a leather-textured header bar rather than the same freaking gray as every other program, then so be it.
And gosh, it actually a pretty good texture. It's not harkening back to the crappy jpeggy/giffy textures of Windows 3.1. (Though as an aside, I find it strange that Apple is trying to push the "full-screen" apps ala EVERY SINGLE WINDOWS INCARNATION as some sort of innovation.)
