I have a 2008 MacBook that I want to sell possibly to a friend (and if that falls through, eBay). I reinstalled using the disk but then it wants me to create a user account and register which I don't want to do. The only reason I didn't just stop after reinstall is that I want to put back photoshop and Aperture on there for this person. I won't be using them anymore so I don't mind giving it to them. Is there a way to bypass the new user account and just put these programs on? Or can I just create a generic username for now? They can change this info and password later? The only thing I saw was that they can not change the folder name so I just put MyMac on there. If I just do the reinstall and quit before the create a new user page, can the buyer download the programs I've already purchased and supply them with the registration codes?? I don't have the disks because I downloaded the programs.
Thanks for any help from a very unknowledgable Mac user!!

I have had this happen to me before. Before you go through the downgrading process, just go to the appstore on the iPhone and download any random app. For some reason, installing a new app fixes all the others and they open correctly. Hope this works for you!

I'd be willing to pay anywhere from 250-300.

My 867 mhz G4 PB takes 15 hours to crunch a unit....I thought that was decent, but if your 450mhz G4's are crunching a unit at 12-14 hrs that would make my PB really slow. huh. And yes, I have it at maximum processor.

If its 10.6, you have to make a new user acct, move the files over and then delete the old one.

I wish this button were available also. It would hopefully cut down on the number of +1 type posts plus possibly make it easier to find the "right" answer in a thread.

GFXstatus works for the most part. Spotlight indexing was fixed for me after a reboot. I had a suspicion my 11 day time to index was wrong :-)
Mine indexed in about 3hrs, then on reboot started indexing again. Both times taking 83% of my CPU.

If you really want to read it to her from your iPad then you could try getting the Kindle app and purchasing the story through it. I have several books that I'm reading from the Kindle app.

Golden rule: do not buy no name RAM. Most of it won't work.
Well known brands like Crucial/Micron, Corsair, Kingston, Hynix, Samsung, Infineon etc. will work. RAM must be low density (ask seller before buying in case of any doubts).

A question to the Mods: Do I need to start a whole new thread for this even though all I did was add a MacRumors Logo?Contest entries must be in the first post of the thread, so you have two choices:
1. Start a new thread.
2. Change your first post in this thread.

I use Transmit (http://www.panic.com/transmit/). It's quite possibly the best client I've ever used (even better than CuteFTP). Also has a spiffy dashboard widget :D

It does sound like it could be hardware...
Two things that are sort of unlikely, but worth considering:
1) If this happens often enough, can you get someone else to try it? If you have many calluses on your fingers, or something like this, then sometimes this will interfere with the trackpad functioning.
2) The trackpad also will behave erratically or not at all if it gets wet.
But barring those things, if this happens in Linux, it sounds as if there is something wrong with your hardware. :(

I don't know RipIt, but if it RipIt already transcodes, why do you transcode again?
Why not just use another ripper and then transcode via Handbrake?

Hello-
I just got back from the Genius Bar regarding my 24" LED Cinema Display.
The genius basically just took a quick look, punched in the serial number, and said I need to pay $398.00 for a flat rate repair. I did not oblige to this, and thought I could repair it myself, as I am a A+ certified computer technition.
The problem is, Cinema Displays are not my thing. I have two thoughts on what it could be:
1. The Logic Board inside the Display as suggested by the Genius. When the display is plugged in, it charges my MacBook Pro, and that's all. It does not appear as a USB hub in system profiler, and the iSight camera and speakers are not utilized or even detected by both my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.
2. The Power Supply...
It might be this, however since the unit charges my MBP i'm not sure about it. Other than the charging, the unit gets otherwise no power.
I'm going to open it up later and inspect for blown capacitors, burnt or damaged areas, ect. I'll post if I find anything.
Thanks!
I did a quick google search and it looks like the ACD logic boards are relatively inexpensive. Just over $100.
For a MBP that flat rate is a great thing, but in your case your probably better buying the part and repairing it yourself. I would do like you said, open it up 1st and inspect for damage. Make sure the board is getting power like it should etc...

Ask one of your friends if you can borrow their snow leopard disc. Otherwise, just wait until Lion this summer. I have the beta, and it's a pretty nice upgrade.

The ATV was not outputting 1080P so that is something to consider.
What does a 720P encode played via iTunes look like? I never tried them back to back, but I never noticed a difference between ATV & Mini playing the same file. In fact I'm now using 3 ATVs and mini is just a headless server I VNC into occasionally. The minimal loss in quality that comes with not being able to do 1080P is more than made up for in the simplicity of the ATV IMHO.
Well I think you're right that the shift in Resoltion is enough to show the flaw in the encodes. I've decided to start reripping my content to uncompressed mkv files. with Storage cheap, and Plex having the ability to stream to IOS devices, there is no lnger a need to really encode anymore.

I have a website that I created in iWeb. It is mainly a homepage with info and some links, the rest is a "My Albums" page with a bunch of albums full of pictures. The pics are taking up almost 1GB of space.
What I would like to do is get the pictures off my main website I created in iWeb so the domain file is smaller and I am not working with all these pictures every time I open iWeb.
My site is hosted at godaddy.com, but I was thinking of maybe putting the pictures on MobileMe or Flickr. What is a good way to have these pictures somewhere that I can easily link to them from my website and make it easy for people to view/download them?
I have heard a few people recommend this one. (http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/how-to-create-a-photo-gallery-using-the-flickr-api/)
Also, have you tried resizing the images...? Is it just the fact you have so many?
