California Coastal Commission Rejects U2 Guitarist's Plan for Five-House Compound Near Malibu

Apparently not a "Beautiful Day" for U2's The Edge.

At Los Angeles Times, "Coastal Commission rejects U2 guitarist's Malibu development plan":

The California Coastal Commission on Thursday rejected a controversial proposal by U2 guitarist the Edge to build five mansions on a rugged ridgeline above Malibu that is home to mountain lions and native chaparral.

The 8-4 vote was the culmination of what has become a closely watched property rights battle between the musician, whose real name is David Evans, and the agency that regulates development along the California coastline.

"In 38 years of this commission's existence, this is one of the three worst projects that I've seen in terms of environmental devastation," Peter Douglas, the agency's executive director, said in an interview after the vote. "It's a contradiction in terms — you can't be serious about being an environmentalist and pick this location" given the effects on habitat, land formation, scenic views and water quality.

Douglas said he expected the matter to end up in court.
More at that link above.

And from Steve Lopez, "The Edge is a bully, not an environmentalist."

Is Kim Kardashian the ultimate bridezilla? As she takes Kris to learn the bridal waltz, Khloe speaks out

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

That's the dance sorted: Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries leave a dance studio in Hollywood today after private coaching from Dancing With The Stars' Mark Ballas

Kim Kardashian has always made it clear that her ultimate aim was marriage and children.

And it seems that now she's got a ring on her finger nothing is going to stop her organising her perfect fairytale nuptials.

In fact the reality star may be in the running to be named the ultimate 'bridezilla', with even one of her sisters predicting her planning will soon become an obsession.

Kim was seen visiting a dance studio with fiancée Kris Humphries today, ushering him inside for private coaching from her former Dancing With The Stars partner Mark Ballas.

It came a day after she was seen leaning over a stressed looking Kris as he picked his wedding suit at a bespoke tailors.

Taking to her feet to better enable her to point out suggestions, she soon had the NBA star in a visible sweat.

Now about the cake... After leaving the dace studio, Kim and Kris headed to two different bakeries

And while Kim and Kris only announced their engagement three weeks ago, they have already organised and published their wedding list.

Kim's sister Khloé believes she will be a 'huge bridezilla' while organising her wedding.

The 26-year-old reality star thinks her older sister, 30, will be a nightmare.

Speaking to Life & Style, she said: 'Kim's going to be a huge bridezilla. She'll get specific with things like fabric, saying, "I can't have cotton, I want French cotton!"

'That's how crazy she is. But she's never mean about it.

'Kim knows what she wants and is going to have whatever she wants. I love that about her - I love the diva-ness.'

Now that's what you call a ball-gown! Tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands goes Gaga at pre-Wimbledon party in wacky yellow dress

By EMILY SHERIDAN

Flamboyant: American tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands makes an entrance at the WTA pre-Wimbledon party in a tennis ball dress

Bethanie Mattek-Sands has described herself as the Lady Gaga of the tennis world due to her flamboyant fashion taste.

So who better to dress the American tennis player than one of Gaga's own designers.

The 26-year-old made an attention-seeking entrance at the Women's Tennis Association pre-Wimbledon party in London last night in a tennis-inspired dress.

Wild thing: Mattek-Sands' dress was made using real tennis balls by London-based designer Alex Noble

The startling dress included a neon green corset made of parts of tennis balls, with matching shoulder pads.

More tennis balls were then attached to some neon green chiffon to create a Mohican-style hat.

Mattek-Sands, who is currently No.31 in the world rankings, commissioned British designer Alex Noble to create her flamboyant gown for the bash at the Kensington Roof Gardens.

Mattek-Sands is no stranger to breaking the style rules, who was fined for wearing a cowboy hat on the court in 2005.

Breaking the rules: Mattek-Sands is hoping to slip in a bit of her individualism to the court at Wimbledon this year

A lover of crazy fashion, Mattek-Sands knows she will have to tone down her wardrobe to adhere to Wimbledon's strict dress code.

So the pre-Wimbledon bash was the perfect opportunity for her to show her individualism outside the rigid rules of the South West London club.

She said last month: 'I don't think I can really challenge the colour rule right now.

'You know, I got to figure something out. Obviously the white, you got to work with a lot of the cuts. Obviously I'll be wearing my high socks. But yeah, it's always challenging to think of new things for Wimbledon.

Colour statement: American tennis player Serena Williams wore a figure-hugging jade Burberry dress, while Russian player Maria Sharapova wore a red skater dress

'I think the fans that come to Wimbledon appreciate everything I do. I think it's more probably the members and the people higher up that are tut-tutting me.'

Mattek-Sands and Noble met up in Madrid and Copenhagen earlier this month and was open to his idea of making the gown out of tennis balls.

In an online video following the making of the gown, Mattek-Sands said: 'Fashion has always been super-interesting for me.'

What a covert operation: Frank Lampard spent three months planning his £150,000 proposal to Christine Bleakley

By LIZ THOMAS

'Off in our own bubble': Christine Bleakley and her new fiancé Frank Lampard are in high spirits as they leave Soho House in West Hollywood last night

It took three months of secret planning and cost as much as £150,000 but Christine Bleakley has insisted fiancé Frank Lampard’s proposal was 'not very fancy'.

The couple are holidaying in America on a trip estimated to be costing £30,000 taking in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

The Chelsea footballer is understood to have lavished in excess of £120,000 on the ring and arranged for one of his friends that worked in America to fly out ahead with it - to make sure that the proposal remained a surprise.

No wedding plans just yet: Bleakley told her Daybreak colleagues the pair were just enjoying the engagement before thinking about the actual nuptials

Lampard, 32, got down on one knee after a romantic beach side lunch in Los Angeles where the couple have spent the last few days.

Miss Bleakley, also 32, confessed she 'cried for ten minutes' after he proposed.

The couple have been on a two week break staying first at the Wynn Encore five star luxury resort in Nevada for almost a week, which costs £400 a night, and boasts its own golf course, private cabanas, four pools and a spa.

'It was a military operation': Bleakley and Lampard step out for dinner to celebrate their engagement in Beverly Hills

They travelled to California last weekend and it is understood they have been staying at the the £350-a-night SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, which is a favourite with Hollywood biggest names.

Club class flights cost in excess of £8,000 return each at this time of year.

On cloud nine: The couple's happiness was clear to see following the proposal, with Christine saying that 'it all feels a bit surreal'

'He got a bit lovey-dovey': Frank's affectionate behaviour this week in Las Vegas did not go unnoticed by the UK media, and Christine now admits he did shower her with love in the lead up to the proposal

'I was kinda large'... but look at Jennifer Aniston now as she flaunts her toned figure in a plunging tuxedo and briefs

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Sexy: Jennifer flaunts her perfectly toned and tanned figure in a chic Ann Demeulemeester ensemble as she poses seductively with her Horrible Bosses co-star Jason Bateman for Marie Claire magazine

In a new interview Jennifer Aniston has admitted that as a child she was 'kinda large'.

But the 42-year-old actress was anything but as she slipped into a plunging tuxedo jacket and pair of briefs in a photoshoot for the July issue of Marie Claire magazine.

Jennifer flaunted her perfectly toned and tanned figure in the chic Ann Demeulemeester ensemble as she posed seductively with her Horrible Bosses co-star Jason Bateman.

Cheeky: For her cover shot, Jennifer also snuggles up to her other Horrible Bosses co-star Jason Sudekis in a nude pink satin slip

In the image the stunning former Friends star seductively cradles the actor's chin as he stands looking dapper in a black Giorgio Armani suit.

For her cover shot, Jennifer also snuggles up to her other Horrible Bosses co-star Jason Sudekis.

With a seductive stare, the actress sexily tugs at the actor's tie as she poses in a nude satin slip.

Jennifer also shows off her newly chopped and blonder bob in a messy bed hair style and her complexion is kept natural in minimal make-up.

'I was kinda large': Jennifer in her younger days

In her accompanying interview, the Hollywood actress reveals that as a child her frame was on the larger side, especially when she was an extra on one of her dad's John Aniston's soap opera's Search For Tomorrow.

'When I was 12, I asked him if I could get a part on his show,' she said.

'I wore a yellow skating outfit, and I was kinda large. It's hard to look good in yellow and I certainly did not.'

These days Aniston certainly does not need to worry about her size.

Her incredible figure has helped earn her numerous film roles, magazine covers and advertising campaigns.

New love? Jennifer was seen with Sudeikis, and her rumoured new love interest Justin Theroux at the MTV Movie Awards after party at the Soho House in Hollywood last week

Sophisticated and sexy Jennifer is especially a firm favourite covergirl in the magazine world.

In her latest film, Jennifer plays a sexually aggressive dentist who assaults her assistant, leading to him conspiring to murder her.

During filming, Jennifer and Jason were rumoured to have sparked up a romance, but in her interview the actress explains that their relationship was purely platonic.

'We should clear it up right now. We never dated, right Jason' she asks the actor.

'No, we didn't. But do we have to put that in the story? My mom - she will be crushed,' he replies jokingly.

While she's not dating Jason, Jennifer has something going on with another man with a name starting with the letter 'J'.

It seems Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins have inherited their parents flair for theatrics.

The two-year-olds were spotted acting up in fancy dress costumes while on an outing with their famous mother and siblings.

Knox opted for a playful ladybird costume - complete with a bright tutu - while his sister Vivienne wore a pink princess outfit for a trip to an indoor play park.

Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, six, and Shiloh, five, also joined in the fun and were spotted leaving the venue with toys in tow.

Play date: Knox wore a ladybird costume while his twin sister wore a princess outfit

The globe-trotting family are currently in Malta while Brad Pitt films the zombie movie, World War Z.

Pitt, 47, and Jolie, 36, have rented a $11 million mansion in the Qrendi area of the island, according to Us Weekly magazine.

On Tuesday night the pair slipped off for a romantic date night at the Trattoria Da Pippo in the nearby town of Valetta.

Later this week, Angelina will jet off to Turkey to visit Syrian refugees as well as the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

At least 8,000 Syrians have fled to Turkey to escape a crackdown on an anti-government uprising.

In April, Jolie travelled to Tunisia during its refugee crisis as thousands fled from its war-torn neighbour, Libya.

While Jolie has been caring for the couple's children, Pitt has been hard at work.

Along with Robert Richardson he was spotted on St Dominic Street, Valletta filming a scene with two zombies, a dozen soldiers and lots of extras running and screaming all over the place.

Kate and William to take entourage of just SEVEN on tour to Canada and the U.S.

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

On duty: The Duke and Duchess will take just seven members of the royal household with them when they visit Canada and the US at the end of the month

The Duke and Duchess' entourage will include Kate's hairdresser, James Pryce, but no 'dresser'

William will give a number of speeches and addresses but his wife will not be speaking publicly

The couple will be in Canada from June 30 to July 8 and will then spend two days in Los Angeles

Sunshine state: The Royal couple's Canadian tour will be followed by a three day trip to California this July

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will have an entourage of just seven people for their tour of Canada and the US, St James's Palace said today.

Seven may seem like quite a lot of support for two people. But the entourage includes two press secretaries and a couple of private secretaries to ensure that royal protocol is followed.

Catherine - who is fast becoming a fashion icon - has broken with tradition by asking not asked to be accompanied by a dresser.

But she will be taking her hairdresser, James Pryce, to help style her look for the many engagements on her itinerary.

Breaking with tradition: Catherine will not be taking a dresser with her, but she will be accompanied by her hairdresser James Pryce

William and Catherine will fly out to North America with the small group of Royal Household staff to help them during the 11-day trip, which begins at the end of the month.

Royal officials said they have tried to keep the entourage as small as possible while still providing enough support for the Duchess, who will be making her first official overseas trip as a member of the monarchy.

Outlining the reason for the US trip, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, their private secretary said: 'The visit will support the interests of the United Kingdom through the prism of the royal couple's interests.

'The Unites States' West Coast is a tremendously important market for British business.

'The Duke and Duchess will support UK technology investment as well as the creative industries through Bafta.

The cutest dancers: Street dancing eight-year-olds steal the show on America's Got Talent

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Off to Vegas: The Art of Teknique show off their Hip Hop dance moves on America's Got Talent

They are still at elementary school. But this trio of street dancing pre-teens stole the show on last night's America's Got Talent.

The Art of Teknique - three boys aged from eight to ten - won themselves tickets to Vegas after they started busting out some killer Hip Hop moves dressed in dapper suits and black trainers.

The boys grinned cheekily throughout their performance and the judges were delighted, praising them for their 'real skill'.

Got the moves: The boys, aged eight to ten, were in perfect sync

Piers Morgan told the youngsters: 'You were absolutely brilliant,' while Sharon Osbourne added: "You guys love it. You love to dance.

'You're very natural performers, I adore you.'

When stand-up comic Howie Mandel asked the boys, from Sacramento in California if they liked girls yet, one shyly replied: 'No!'

Dapper: The boys wore matching suits and trainers for their performance

The usual crowd of strange wannabes was also out in force for the auditions, hosted by Nick Cannon, including a 46-year-old man who claimed to hold the world record for blowing up hot water bottles to bursting point.

Sadly he was unable to even explode even one - blaming a new brand.

Piers said: 'That was one of most pointless things ever seen in my entire life.'

An aunt of another rejected contestant then confronted Piers and told him he was 'no good'.

The highlight of the show for CNN host Piers was a 55-year-old realtor from Denver who came on stage with a 'special song' for him.

Marylee told the judges: 'I write songs for dead people. I take stories about someone who has died then write a song about them.

'I sang silently for decades. But I have written a special song for someone here who happens to be alive.'

Songs for dead people: Marylee made an exception and composed a song for a living person - Piers Morgan

I love her! Piers backed Marylee, saying 'it's about as good as it gets'

Piers put his head in his hands but after she had serenaded him, along with a projector movie of old Piers footage, he said: 'That was a good a song as I have ever heard and one of the best movies.

'I'll definitely see you go all the way. It was great for me and you get a resounding yes.'

Sharon and Howie disagreed however and Piers' crooner had to go home.

The panel: Piers, Sharon Morgan and stand-up comic Howie Mandel

Another hit of the night was a band of young dads called BGP who gave a rendition of Elton John's Bennie and the Jets.

They received the first standing ovation of the night and Piers said they had 'great charisma'.

Other contestants included a free-style dancer called Alaska who had the judges joining in, a 'charming' pole-dancer and a wannabe comedian who once told 676 jokes in one hour.

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Pick me up mummy! Suri was carried around by her mother Katie Holmes alongside her grandparents

Suri's grandparents experienced a taste of Hollywood glamour yesterday on a day out in Beverly Hills with their granddaughter and daughter Katie Holmes.

The five-year-old trendsetter looked adorable in a baby blue summer dress which matched Katie’s crisp cotton shirt and casual jeans as the family headed to Urth Caffé.

Katie held Suri’s hand in-between carrying her down the street, while the actress’s parents Kathleen and Martin Holmes followed closely behind.

he former Dawson’s Creek star’s mother and father looked thrilled to be spending some quality time with their daughter and grandchild.

The Urth Caffe is a favourite organic coffee company among celebrities and carries its own brand of premium, fresh roasted whole bean organic coffee, while being known for its strict ethical standards of produce.

Kathleen raised Katie and her four siblings in Ohio with her husband Martin, who is a divorce lawyer.

Shoe collection: Suri strolled around in flip flops as rumours of her $150,000 footwear collection were dismissed

But Katie’s three sisters Tamera, Holly Ann, Nancy and her brother Martin Jr. didn’t join the family yesterday on their day out.

Meanwhile, as Suri strolled around Beverly Hills in flip flops, rumours of the youngster having a $150,000 shoe collection have been dismissed.

Pretty in blue: Suri looked lovely in a baby blue summer dress, which matched Katie's crisp cotton shirt

A source told JustJared.com that the rumours of the extravagant collection were completely made up and untrue.

But the fashionable little girl is no stranger to designer ensembles and is regularly spotted out and about holding expensive handbags and couture dresses.

Suri has also been voted fourth in Heat Magazine’s ‘cutest celebrity kids’ poll this week.

She was bet to the top spot by Cruz Beckham, six, as Willow Smith, 10, came in second, while Madonna’s 14-year-old daughter was voted the third cutest.

On the weekend Suri’s usually glamorous mother and stylish father Tom took her to a film studio in their tracksuit bottoms.

Katie, 32, and Tom, 48, made for a scruffy pairing as they made their way into the West Hollywood studio.

Having one of Hollywood’s leading actors as her father means Suri is no doubt a regular visitor to the studio.
