AT&T has rules for iPhone 3G S launch
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4507/attlogo.gif
Lines allowed to form starting at 7am
Perhaps AT&T has learned some from the troubles with iPhone past launches and they are going to try to make the experience better by settings some rules this time around. While AT&T is calling these “rules” guidelines, we think it really is nothing more than an effort to make a success of what the company hopes is one of the biggest tech event launches of the year.
AT&T stores will receive inventory in time for the actual launch on June 19th. AT&T is already accepting pre-orders online as well as in stores. This change is key this time around because those that choose not to place a pre-order could be left out in the cold. From our understanding, pre-order customers will be given priority.
The way that it will work is when the AT&T store opens, customers in line will then be split into two lines, with those already having a pre-order placed in one line and those who don’t have a pre-order placed in the other line. Pre-order customers will be able to start receiving their new iPhone 3G S starting shortly after 7 A.M., while those without a pre-order will have to wait until the store’s official regular opening time. Upon the actual regular opening time of the store, the two lines will then be merged into one line again. Apple retail stores will also be an option as they will open at 8 A.M. on launch day, but only those that pre-order from the Apple retail store will actually be able to pick up their phones early.
As for the pricing, current AT&T customers that have had a contract with AT&T for at least 18 months will be able to get the new 16GB model for $199 or a 32GB model for $299. If you happen to be a current AT&T iPhone owner, but have not gone 18 months on your current contract, you will be able to pick up a new iPhone 3G S but will have to pay between $399 to $599, depending on how much time is left on your current contract and whether you want the 16GB or 32GB model. From what we understand, you will have to agree to another 2-year contract to get the iPhone 3G S this time around.
The only actual possible loophole in this deal is to cancel your current AT&T contract and pay the $175 early termination fee and then wait three months. After the three months have lapsed, you can return to AT&T and then get new customer pricing, which would save you $225, but you have to endure a three-month wait.
While the pricing and the options might make some AT&T customers unhappy, it is what it is. The bottom line is that the iPhone is still so hot, AT&T knows that people will pay what it takes to sport the new version if they are a big iPhone fan. According to our sources, AT&T should have enough inventory to more than cover the pre-orders, but beyond the pre-orders it is difficult to say if they will be able to meet the demand on launch day for additional units. Our advice is that if you want to have one on launch day, you had better get your pre-order in soon.

Clearly, some have absolutely no privacy concerns, since what goes here, goes all over the internet.
How is posting your bedroom a privacy concern? I don't see what safety issues you'd be risking.

Hey everyone,
Getting very excited about launch day tomorrow! Anyone planning on lining up at the Apple Store in Boca Raton Town Center Mall. If so, can you please post with your time of planned arrival?

No one's forcing you.
I never claimed anyone does, but it's hard to ignore if you are into electronic music. For me Dubstep sounds like a prog/breaks track which wants to get out and can't. The only place it ever sounded good was when the DJ played it as a warm-up at the Prodigy live concert, but I guess on a proper sound system everything sounds good. :D

Where is the best place to get the latest update for the untethered jailbreak for 4.2.1? This is my first iPod and I'm not sure who reports what and where.
Here's the latest 3rd Beta version of redsn0w (http://www.geekword.net/redsn0w-0.9.7b3-ios-4.2.1-untethered-jailbreak/) which does untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2.1. A guide on how to do the jailbreak is also hyperlinked in the same article.
If you find it confusing then you can always visit: iPhone-dev blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/redsn0w)
But you should remove all important data on your i-device before jailbreaking it with these versions, as they are in Beta test mode, so they might encounter some bugs and crashes.
I hope it will satisfy what you need.
Good luck!

both those are for physical CDs and really won't catalog your iTunes.
The first one also looks to be PC only.
It seems like you had a issues with transferring the files. besides for finding what songs are on the computer I don't see any real use for this situation, and that can be done in iTunes.

Hi guys,
Can't figure this one out.
I have two macbook pro's, one is a 2009 13" macbook pro running leopard, the other a brand new i7 15" macbook pro running snow leopard.
I have them both configured as much the same as you can with the two operating systems and I swap them about a lot at the moment, when studying, I use the new one to work on, and the old one for internet and information. Kind of a geeky mission control thing going on.
But now the 13" won't connect to the internet.
Ethernet seems fine
Wireless connection seems fine
yet no internet.
This happened 2 days ago, and I managed to fix it by repairing permissions and restarting. Now this has happened again today but the same thing won't fix it.
Any pointers would be really helpful.
Kind regards
Jonny

When he said BLUERAY everyone thought that in that minute Steve will announce the Blueray integration to the product line.
If you see the keynote in that moment the crowd makes some noise.
But nothing
Well if you listen closely to Steve later on in the Keynote when he talks about the MacBook Air not having an optical drive he makes it sound like optical drives are the next thing that will be obsolete.
Blu-ray does have advantages over HD DVD, but I own an HD DVD player and it is not garbage. I am not here for another round of fighting over the formats and I am now neutral and will transition to Blu-ray by adding a player when prices come down, but in no way is HD DVD garbage. It is a good technology that was poorly marketed.

This was a great video. If your interested in Leopard (which is a version of OS X BTW), its a must see.
The slides show some of the presentation a little more clearly, but they aren't useful by themselves.

Hi,
I have a Airport Extreme Base station connected to an ADSL modem. This is set up and seems to be working fine. I also have an Airport Express to go in between the base station and my computer to extend the range as my computer reads about 30%. However, despite appearing to be working (green light is on on both devices) there is no change in signal strength.
I set up the base station to create a wireless network, and set the express to join existing network, then extend the range, all with Airport Utility. I have moved the express to different plug sockets at varying distances between the computer and the base station but to no effect. My computer can just about connect to the internet but my PS3 which has a lower reception (about 20%) can't get online. I moved the PS3 next to the base station router to check it wasn't a PS3 issue and it worked fine but this is not a long term solution for me.
So the only problem is why laptop/PS3 seem to still be connecting to the base station which is further away, rather than the express? I saw something about WDS mode, which while I know what it stands for, I don't understand how this is different to what I have set up already.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I can't figure out what the current avatar is doing. Biting something? Spitting something out? And what is it?
It's fascinating to watch though.
I thought it was him chewing on an iPod, hahaha, I love it...:)

Go ahead and update your iPod to 4.2.1. You can do it straight from iTunes. Could you tell me what operating system you are running?

My only prior Apple experience was in grade school with the ][e (those were the days :p ), gotta love that green text and The Oregon Trail was one of the best computer games ever. I used DOS at home(ok, I didnt "use" it I just cd to a game directory) and then Windows when it became decent(95). I switched to Linux on my x86 box and only used Windows for certain games. Never much liked Windows, nothing exciting. I love Linux though and the whole unix philosophy.
I needed a laptop recently and decided to go with a Powerbook 1ghz for the form factor, design, and to give OSX a whirl, I always admired OSX since it was first shown to the public and the fact that its unix-like was the nail in the x86 coffin for laptop choice.
Needless to say my experience has been positive, from unpacking the box to firing up the OS. It gives me the best of Linux(unix stuff) and the best of Windows(games, office, photochop, audio applications).
Ive used everything under the sun and I must say that OSX is the best looking desktop environment by far and the graphics acceleration is icing on the cake.
The only negative has been lack of configurability, Linux absolutely rules here. Still though I guess that can be a plus too as it keeps things simple and clean.
On a scale of 1-10 I give my Mac a 9.9 :)

yeah, uh, well, um.... sorry about that - Holiday weekend and all, and I've been doing a bit of work around the house lately, so slightly less time in front of the keyboard. I try to pop in every few hours at least and check - so if you don't see your submissions, check back in a while. If there's a real problem, I'll let you know.
One thing that can help me, however - when using the submission tool, sometimes the info doesn't parse quite right from the iTMS URL when you put it in, so when you click on the "preview" button, make sure the preview shows the right stuff (or stuff at all). Sometimes if the iTMS is really busy, the info just doesn't come thru, and I have to re-enter all of it by hand on the server side to get it to work. The link still works, but it effectively doubles the work I have to do per track if it's doesn't work.
Thanks for the interest everyone!
My music collection grows almost daily now.

currently living in Hanoi [don't pay attention at the location thing, it was updated weeks ago]... I don't think there is a vietnamese sattelite tv... there are currently 5 "channels" that is country-wide... VTV1,2,3 are the most common... VTV4 is for Vietnamese living in foreign countries and VTV5 is for ethnic groups... Inside news is that they're making a VTV6 for something... :o [was it marketing, advertising or some kind of shopping channel, didn't pay attention; anyhow, it's getting made] you can get foreign sattelite... quite a lot of it... if there any other question, just ask... maybe I'll take a trip to the broadcasting place to see VTV6 get made...

I am working on a project which will be translated into five different languages which will call for Roman, Cyrillic and Greek alphabets. I am aiming to produce all the documents in the same font sets so am looking for fonts that cover all these languages. Does anyone have any suggestions of font families that cover this range? They don't need to be freebies, I have a budget for fonts.
In particular I am looking for a serif body text font that reads nicely and a sans serif display font. Nothing too outlandish, it's a fairly serious report.
Thanks for any suggestions.
