This would be nice. I'd like to be able to tell my phone to read an email or text to me when I receive one while driving. However, I get into arguments all the time with the Siri app. We weren't on speaking terms for about a month after the last fiasco, (she kept telling me she couldn't help me because she didn't know my home address even though I wasn't at home and I couldn't see how knowing that would help me find a Taco Bell), but we recently made amends and the relationship, although tenuous, is improving.

Maybe they should just have Candlestick park for a separate event for people that just want to see the keynote.
So these guys pay $1000 to NOT see a keynote?? .... I think you see the obviou$ flaw in your logic. That's like having a Presidential fundraiser and the Presidential candidate not showing up because he's across the street, in the park, kissing babies and shaking hands. my iphone produces some ok photos but also produces a large volume of absolute shite ones.
The higher mp may not mean muhc, but hopefully they will be improving the optics/sensor while at it. The nokia n8 may be a fugly symbian^3 abomination, but the sensor combined with the carl zeiss optics produces some really nice photos, even in low light.
You can also use the hdmi out for flipping throuhg photos, and not just the fakin stupid slideshow like the hdmi adapter on the iphone4

Who cares about Flash? Most of the time it's used, it's because the web designers are too dumb or lazy to get the page right without it, because they haven't kept out with what a modern browser is capable of.

Okay, STOP! before you erase its entire existance off the Adobe corp. servers (and back ups) lol -- take a second and check your email and what's that you find? X hundred? x thousand?? people all crying to you why Flash doesn't work on the iPhone... If I were the man in charge I'd say enough of this crap ... we have an iPhone ready (aka SUPER CRAPTASTC!) version of Flash all packed up and ready to explode err... ready to go and Apple cuts us off?!?!? well &*#&$*( them! I'm not fielding any more nasty grams from people ask ME why its not on their stupid little crappy iPhone ... Lets tell em exactly WHY it's not and be done with the entire mess.

I'm also a "hey what is this FLASH?! that you speak of?!?!" and why would I ever care to have it on my machine... So drop the flash-pipe, spark up a doob and read some Perl Camel books and once you've got a good head on then get some cookies and move over to some Ruby on Rails books or perhaps PHP. I just hope that the videos come to Australia when they are announced in the USA.
If the movie store is announced on the 12th, I'm guessing the Aussie store will arrive some time in 2009 :) though maybe movies don't have as messed up distribution rights as music, but don't hold your breath.

People don't care about Flash Player itself, they just want the ability to play video in the browser, which the iPhone is perfectly capable of doing. So instead of lobbying Apple for Flash support we should be lobbying web developers for video tag support.
Developers aren't the problem. A lot of it is Internet Explorer and Microsoft not supporting standards. For one, IE doesn't do much html5. Microsoft will probably never support the svg-based "flash killer" canvas tag. Also, due to bickering on all browser makers, HTML5 doesn't specify a mandatory video format so you have Apple doing mpeg-4, Firefox and friends doing ogg, and IE supporting nothing. And let's not forget users who still run IE6.
Out of the box, most Windows machines don't know how to play MP4 files (unless a user has QuickTime) but most do play flash content. Mac OS X won't play ogg out of the box. So you're left with Flash. As a web developer, Flash is the easiest way to get multimedia, especially video, on your website and looking the same in all browsers. This would be a good thing if ANY of those stores actually had any iPads for sale.... As it is now they are just adding another store chain for people to check inventory :D
Doesn't matter where Apple sells its products. Better to make your products available everywhere than in just one or two specific stores. Remember: Not every city has an Apple store and can be quite a distance to the closest.

I know this is a fake (now) but I'm really hoping they release by the first week in April. I finally got my company to approve me a MacBook Pro 17" (was pretty easy actually, but nevertheless...) to go in tandem with my 24" iMac (2.8GHz C2D) and we have our national conference in Las Vegas this April that I'll be attending, and we'll need to do on-site video and photo editing (graphic designer here).
It was hard for IT to come in and say "ok, what do you want" (pretty much a blank check) and tell them to wait until early April. They don't blame me though, I have a Quad Core i5 750 in my Windows machine and it screams, I'll wait for the performance boost.

Damn, album artwork doesn't work in my country. I'm from Latvia (in Europe, just in case) and iTunes is not available here. So, just for getting album artwork, you'll need an account in iTunes, I've tried to make one, but iTunes ignore my credit card, cause it's not registered in US (or other available countries) Really want to use this feature. Maybe someone know what can I do... Thanks in advance

i would like this. i enjoy the beatles and would love to be more easily able to explore their music, and while i might not purchase them all through iTunes getting the previews would be very helpful. :)

Apple, you have that fixed in iTunes yet? I'd like to see the Cancel button actually work and also the ability to selectively rip or bypass any one song I want to on my disk.
You can do that now. Put in a CD and deselect the check mark to the left for any song you don't want ripped. I do it all the time.

One thing that strikes me...... doesn't this cause some confusion since Intel uses the "Core 2 Duo" name for both the mobile Merom chips and the desktop Conroe chips? Not that most consumers would know the difference anyway, but it seems like people see "Core 2 Duo" in the desktop iMac, and the assumption would be that it would be the same "Core 2 Duo" processor found in other desktops, not the mobile version.

This would be a most welcome addition! (well if they did it in the UK too..).
If they managed to make them so you didn't have to download the whole OS each time there was a tiny tiny update then even that would be more fun (whether it be wireless or via itunes as it is now).
It's just annoying having to wait a good hour on my ridiculously slow internet to download updates :(

Granted, the body of the page refers to the original Core Duo chip, but it's safe to assume that at least Play.com believes they have a new product to sell from the 13th onward.

The amount of crap in this thread is amazing:
1) Flash could never be a normal 'App' because it has to operate as a plugin for Safari since it's not a stand alone product on its own. For this reason, it would at the very least HAVE to be co-developed by Apple and included in a software update.
2) The primary reason Apple don't want to allow Flash, Java or any other runtime environment on the iPhone is because it would mean that developers would be able to bypass the App Store and Apple's own development tools. This would weaken the entire platform because there would be less incentive to develop native iPhone applications. It would also have the consequence of handing control over part of the entire platform to a third party - imagine if Adobe decided to stop producing Flash for the iPhone. Where would that leave Apple?
3) The Mac and PC versions of Flash differ because the underlying operating systems are fundamentally different particularly in how they handle hardware graphics acceleration. Blame for the poor performance of Flash on Mac OS X has to lie primarily with Adobe because they produce the software and Mac OS X includes very solid, highly optimised 2D and 3D graphics APIs.
4) Flash video using the older Sorenson and On2 codecs will not play properly on any current mobile device because there is no hardware optimisation for those codecs. Anyone tell me what good is a 64-bit processor other than being able to address more RAM. I know a 64-bit address bus alone doesn't make a 64-bit processor.
I also heard these are not "true" 64-bit processors, just the same old x86 processors w/ 64-bitty goodness added on. Any truth to this?

Instead he's just vehemently opposed to the model, which means he should have never started coding in the first place. When you code a release up to 3.0 and then quit on basic principle, that's retarded
It probably has to do with the three20 project incident a couple of days ago. Basically some devs had their apps rejected because they were using three20 which had some private API calls.

Good points. In any other profession, say a carpenter, you buy the tools before you make anything but you also have to have talent as a baseline.
Pretty sure people supporting illegally obtaining them wouldn't support said carpenter from walking into a Home Depot and walking out with $3k in power tools because "Hey, he is just getting started!".
No, I'm saying this completely fake but probable guy isn't doing well enough with his full time job (which is as a graphic artist), so he's doing a little freelance work to get to a point where he can afford his various monthly payments. It's a break even thing, and there's not much left over, if any... theoretically.
