Did you just insult me and then agree with what I said?

Nope, he said the opposite of what you said.

You said the once the software is easy everyone will be able to edit well.
He said that editing well has nothing to do with how well you know the software.

I am seriously thinking of getting out of Windowsworld and the new 24" iMac looks great!:D

From the listed specs this will really rock.

Anybody have advice on whether I should wait for Leopard to come out or not?

Why wait? It's perfect! You'll drive yourself crazy waiting. It's like staring at a sizzling steak in front of your face, but deciding not to eat it until April!

Did you notice how he put it? "On the media"?

Where else was he gonna see it? We live in a nice safe neighborhood. It's not like he was going to witness crimes firsthand.

According to the Wikipedia article, a Home Basic upgrade is only $99.95, which is cheaper than the standard $129 for OS X releases. Then again, education customers can often get Mac OS for around $70 in some cases, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if there will be education discounts for Vista or how much they will be. With so many versions and price points for Vista and an unknown price tag for Leopard, it's very complicated to make comparisons...

Now one of the big questions is, who can get a Home Basic upgrade and how much are Home Basic users missing out on if they get that as opposed to Aero, etc.? No one knows for sure all the details at this point and we won't know for sure until official announcements are made. Although I would take OS X over Windows any day, we have to be cautious I think before saying Mac's upgrades are cheaper than Windows'. It looks like in many cases they will be, but not necessarily in all cases.

You are mixing apples and oranges here sport. Vista BASIC does not have any comparison in the Apple world. You have to compare the Premium version of Vista.

I hate how you have to download the entire OS every time there's a small update like this. 666MB for a few bug fixes... Also, what's up with the 666MB? Maybe we should stay away from this update guys lol.

Same here! It's an "Apple" product with a "666"MB OS...anyone else thinking that's strangely close to a story with a snake in a garden? Haha. Kinda interesting.

Front page news since there had been reports that BBY was holding back inventories for this promotion. And from the comments, very few if any could be had. Working retail this sort of ad is a nightmare; and having done 4-color ads for the company the lead times can hurt.

I am sure that there will be business books written on the iPad2 release - "The Perfect Storm" of exceeded demand beyond expectations, a supply disruption to components due to a natural disaster, and the willingness of consumers to pay "scalper prices" and the supply chain unwilling or unable to control "scalper" purchases.

And the nightmare of BBY holding a customer "hostage" for the $100 deposit to be placed on a waiting list. The way I hear it if a customer at BBY places a $100 deposit it is via a BBY Gift Card - locking the consumer in to spending $100 at BBY regardless if they had been able to get an iPad2 from another source. Gift Card agreements generally state they are not refundable.

While maybe not against some local consumer protection laws - there are those that don't read the fine print. May be their fault; but can be a headache for a smaller retailer that abides by common sense reality.

That can be tough for any retailer these days. With the Net (and without); I have seen at my job folks that place multiple orders with multiple same stores or vendors - seeing who can deliver first. At least for my shop we take deposits via a credit card.

I wouldn't know who Joe Hewitt is without the iPhone app. Enjoy this final moment of attention Joe, you are now nearly irrelevant. I wonder how many Twitter followers he's lost in the last 24 hours...

are you people making this all this fuss over C2D MB's coming out? or is there more expected from the update....like the true ipod video? i dont see how a C2D MB could bring so much excitement....there's not THAT much difference in performance.
There might be a few more surprises with the MB as well, like there was with the MBP.

i think i would rather read a paperback
wouldnt the screen strain the eyes?
Good point, one key to a good book reader is a high pixel density. Of course, that would be great for viewing video, as well..

My point is, the ping-pong effect, when it was used, was deliberate. It does sound strange now, but I remember when these albums came out people listened to them on headphones and thought the effect was cool.

I'm no Beatles historian by any means, but correct me if I'm wrong: weren't the first albums recorded in mono? The stereo versions were later, rather crude simulations of stereo, which is why they never made it to CD.

Yes the first albums were mixed primarily in MONO. Stereo was an afterthought at the time until Hep and really Rubber Soul and Revolver. The old CDs from 1986 have never been ugraded but if you listened to the Yellow Submarine SONGTRACK and now LOVE, you can hear beautiful remixed and remasterd versions that are so very modern. Those old CDs were crap. The Vinyl versions are so much better.

^^^ Awesome for 6400 ISO! Looking forward to more shots from Sat. if you have them. :)

Thanks so much! Yea, I'm very impressed by the high ISO, although I think the snow might be helping it blend a bit.

I wish I spent more time consciously framing shots, and waiting for the right moment to snap pictures. This photo I think would have been much better if I waited for those two boys to leave the frame, and if I didn't cut her legs off.

...I edit professionally and I am stoked by what I have seen so far. Anything that makes my life easier is a good thing... As others have said, just because amateurs can afford the software, it doesn't mean that they can use it well.So true to both your statements.
The new starting point reminds me of Alias (now Autodesk) Maya's Marking Menus, where a simple stroke using a keyboard would let you speed up editing in 3D. Now with thew new Timeline/Sequence, options like Compound Clips and Magnetic Timeline, I can imagine where Apple will apply this too.
Ive seen high-end companies go from 5 digit costs to 3 in a span of 5 years due to the competition. Still doesnt mean the software is easy to use it just helps you be more creative and Apples always been about that!
Funny that Apple came up with that price of 299 cause the day before, Avid came out with a 995 crossgrade from Final Cut.
You get to keep your FC license too.
Avid Media Composer is 2500 USD.
Did Avid know what Apple was going to price FCP at?

    Thats my conspiracy theory ;)

this may be a dumb question, but what is the difference between all those versions? I mean, between "Upgrade" and "Regular Price"? What's considered an upgrade

Over-the-air updates over the cellular network is a fine idea, but it's just not that important. That's not really a capability I value at all. Nice, but so what?

What Apple should have done a long time ago is made it possible to update and sync iDevices over WiFi. There is enough bandwidth on WiFi to do all of that just fine. And there is no technical reason it can't be done.

Seriously, why the heck, when I'm at home on my WiFi network (Apple gear too, btw) do I need to connect my iPhone to my computer with a stupid USB cable? If I want to install an iOS patch or simply add a couple of songs from my iTunes library, I should be able to do it while I'm sitting on the couch, or at the dinner table. Having to use a cable is sooooo 5 years ago.

I'm just going to throw this very quick (and shoddy) rendering I made into the mix, portraying a possible "tabletop" iMac.

Uhm, you are a bit confused.

Which tells me, that Apple has done a poor job of getting Safari to work well with Flash.

That's like saying that Microsoft should make windows work better with iTunes... kinda backwards.

Given that Safari is the fastest browser out there, I think Apple has done their part. Adobe needs to step up, and optimize flash for osx.

Urban legend. The space pen was developed by a third party, and pencils were used in early nasa missions. Pencils aren't good for outer space since they can burn and shavings and lead bits can float around, which is hazardous.

This is almost the exact post I wrote yesterday on the last 4.3 update thread. It is driving ne nuts. And I'm sure I was able to distinguish between texts and emails before. I'm filing it under bug too.

    Mr. Hatbasket and MacFreak:

In case you are curious, I just had my wife text me (I have 3G3 running iOS 4.3) and I set my phone to vibrate. When she texted, it only vibrated once. So I'm guessing there is a setting that isn't working for you. Since you are saying that you know several people this is happening to, then I doubt it would be a file corruption issue.

    I hope this helps.

GRRRRRRRRRR! I want to upgrade my current videos to 640x480... HOW?

The usual answer would be: start with a new source, and compress that to 640x480. If you start with a video that's already 320x240, you can't expect it to look better if you later try to re-encode it to a larger screen size. Can't get data from nowhere... can't get blood from a stone.

Cool Idea. Horrible implementation. Why put it in a imac or any desktop!? The angle would hurt like hell and it could never be used in a productive setting (at an office where you have to type all day) also if it only has an iOS layer then how much will it be utilized is it worth to touch the screen to open safari then use the mouse for everthing else.

    Edit:
maybe it would be cool to have like an iOS crossover that replaces dashboard and has an app store but not touch screen..

No you would not. Don't fool yourself.

Made in USA is becoming something from the past. Americans need to come to the forefront of innovation and technology. Labor is always cheaper in countries like Brazil and China.
Americans want to pay Walmart prices so that to happen these products need to be made elsewhere.
An iPad "made in USA" would probably cost twice.

i don't know, i can find headphones (relatively high end) made in Ireland and Germany that are selling for the same price as a few made in China. Contrary to what people believe, i think a rise in price of a product made in a country like the states would not be substantially more. Economies of scale plays a fundamental role in this.
