The publishing rights are what was being discussed and it's every song in the Beatles catalog. There are other songs by the Beatles and the individual artists which are not part of the catalog being discussed. I wasn't referring to those, or the mechanical rights.

People seemed to think that Sony/ATV controlled (and profited from) the Beatles music available on iTunes so I was just making it clear. :)

This is the first, and last time Apple will ask for Sony's help.

Yeah, but not the last time it asks for all the hundreds of other suppliers help it does so yearly as Apple actually makes NOTHING itself bar software these days.......
And I'm pretty sure it's not called 'help' but rather buying the best components from suppliers to make your products with.

And on a side note, Sonys Exmoor R which is most likely what Apple will use, pretty much creams the iPhone 4's module, if it wasn't a big enough improvement Apple wouldn't bother with it and use something else.

It would be very interesting to read Lord of the Rings and have the soundtrack playing - synchronised to where you're up to in the book. Or the book with excerpts from the movie.

Or pictures synchronized with an audiobook, or an ebook together with the preferred music from the author. This ads a whole new dimension to everything, Music, text, pictures and movies can all be combined into 1 work of art.

Wow!!! I definitely did not see this coming on a Wednesday. I'm heading to Apple's site right now to check it all out. Go, Apple!

    And $999? Holy...

Edit: Haha, I'm just laughing with excitement over here. I love Apple! :D I'm probably not getting one, but this is so sweet. I definitely can't wait to try it out in an Apple Store.

The link to the battery recall is changing. I've got at least 2 printout that do not match up! First time the link took me to Depot.Info and then the last time it took me to Support.apple.com. These links are slightly different.

Except to get in on the September iPod refresh timeframe. Read this. (http://daringfireball.net/2011/02/the_next_six_months)

I have read that. But sorry, they aren't losing iPad holiday sales due to the iPad x+1 coming the next spring. Most people aren't that in tune, and when they get xmas gifts, they're happy to have a $500-700 gift, they're not worried that it will upgraded in a few months. The display doubling is not realistic nor is it necessary for 2011. Apple has already jumped ahead of the Android market with the iPad 2 and will keep a comfy lead this year. Look at how hard it is to get one. They haven't even been able to ship internationally yet. And they are still weeks out on US orders. They won't be coming out with a Pro, HD 2.5 or 3.0 iPad this year.

Having an April release cycle make fine sense for them.

It is good news, at 400 buckeroos people will go "Wa!!" and look at the price tag of a Mac Mini, figuring Macs are not so expensive after all.How is it good news?

General consumers aren't going to buy a $400 retail version of windows Vista. They will wait to get the new OS untill they purchase a new machine and Vista will be included (or an available upgrade) at an oem price level.

This retail pricing of Vista is about the same as the retail price of XP. But who cares, the vast majority of people don't buy windows retail.

But how many tickets were actually for sale? 3000? 5000? 10,000? Remember that the conference center needs to house all the Apple employees, the contractors, and of course all the booths/rooms.

I would imagine that Apple purposely plans events (timing as well as location) that WILL sell out. Apple doesn't want to hold an event where only 50% of the conference hall is filled.

Selling out in 12 hours may not be all that it's cracked up to be. But in theory if 100% of the attendees are truly developers, I could see a fast sellout.

First impressions after seeing the demo: very exited! The lack of a 'writing video' window seems worth the wait alone.

Still have some questions and doubts though. The interface will no doubt feel like second nature after some time, but what will an omf look like when sent to my audio guy? How about final cut server support, and color, soundtrack pro, etc. Will my old libary of much loved plugins still work?

Very curious about what we're going to see in the coming months.

Man, Apple keeps getting lower and lower. First Walmart, now this?

The closest apple store to my town (population 48k) is over a hour away - we have two radio shacks. How is this low? an elitist much? This is great! - Ipad 2's are the same price everywhere, except AAFES where its $10 cheaper and tax free. - Now many people can save their hard earned money as gas approaches $4 a gallon under this administration. Besides some people have radio shack credit cards -and earn rewards. They may prefer to buy from there.

I'm not sure many would agree with you on that. Apple has always been a hardware company. Just because their software drives their hardware doesn't mean they are software focused. If they were primarily a software company, they would have gone the way of Microsoft and put out MacOS to run on any generic PC box. But we all know their take on that. Just to drive my point home, when was the last time Apple released a piece of software that people went nuts about and stood in lines for hours to get?

Indeed they definitely are a hardware company, that's where all their profit comes from. I think to answer your rhetorical question, 'Leopard', from what I've heard.

Students pay either less (edu-discount-not just in the U.S.) for their Mac, buy a refurbished model or buy a used Mac from the previous owner. In the best case, this reduces the price of a previous generation Mac to one third or even to 25 percent of the original price.

And who says, students are rich? You, or what!? *lol*

I know teachers who use pirated software. I mean that's just Unconscionable

I have an almost 9 month old boy. He was using the iPad to play games by 6 months of age. The iPad *IS* one of his favorite toys and with it's education and entertainment potential, is certainly a good investment. I need to go because he's about to attack my keyboard. I'll give him the iPad to play with :)

Are you ****ing serious? How the hell did you get this from letting his kid use the iPad occasionally?

    Posters these days...

So what part of that post screams "occasional?" You clearly did not read/understand the post in question properly. That's kind of surprising considering it's very simply laid out.

Read the post I quoted again and come back. Let me know if you need me to draw any pictures for you.

Posters these days....can't read worth a damn.

Precisely - see my above post. As I see it, there is still a huge gap in the product line - perhaps not in price or specs, but in fundamental design philosophy. Anyone wanting an Apple desktop is forced to buy an AIO. For many people that's fine, they don't care, perhaps they even welcome it or prefer it, but for many others it's simply not an attractive option.

    Nicely said. I fully agree.

this is more of a facelift than a product change

expect lots of these from apple now that they're Intel Powered.

    (which is no bad thing)

I wouldn't get the black. I had one, and it looked great fresh from the box, but looked old and tired 30 minutes later with grease marks all over it. Stick with the white as the smooth plastic finish doesn't show marks and is easier to clean.

Or maybe just wash your hands when you're done eating fried chicken?

I for one salute Apple in its efforts to ensure a safe computing environment.

And, my salute has NOTHING to do with the fact that my 18 month old and very used iBook battery currently only holds a 10 minutes charge.

    :) :) :)

Crossing my fingers I have an unsafe battery...

Hard drives would not be good AT ALL for an iPod Touch. Apps depend on the instant access that flash memory allows for using data, so a hard drive would slow the whole process up, especially on the processor size.

Have you actually measured it or are you just repeating marketers' tales?

No, "it just ought to be faster" is not the answer.

Until the flash storage is directly accessible by the CPU in the very way RAM is, without the need to read data into RAM, the difference is negligible (think early PocketPC). Besides, add the filesystem layer overhead.
